Internent in 2020

 

What my life will be like in 2020: The weather report will be messaged to my phone with a picture of what to wear. It takes my breakfast order and prepares it for me. It wakes my kids up for school at exactly 6:32 am and mutes any fights between the youngins unless there's blood. If I want to know something I touch the built in wall sized screen's dictionary or definition button. I can watch movies, television, and anything else I want to on this enormous computer. There is no such thing as unfound, I can find out anything I want at anytime. I can choose a color of paint and try it out before going to get it in the store. I can also get help cleaning as it extends it's arms to vacuum and dust. If I get an e-mail it warns me and sometimes it reads and I verbally reply if I want to. As my kids come home from school and later on get ready for bed it helps keep an eye on the outside world, if there is an emergency it pops the news on. It's all the more helpful.

Martian Mary

In this months issue (May,2011) of Seventeen magazine Mary sees Emma Roberts with a beautiful smile and gorgeous hair that fills the page. She also sees colors and other celebrity news. Some headlines she sees include: "look hot", "get pretty for summer", and "make him worship you". The majority of the articles are about guys or beauty. They talk about ways to get more beautiful and how to get guys. This suggests that you aren't already beautiful and you must look a certain way to get a guy. This also suggests that you have to look a certain way in order to be popular. People in the magazine look like they are half dressed or wearing something expensive. They look like they are airbrushed and in my opinion, digitally edited. Most of the clothing is very short or skin tight, they even say why it's good to wear such a thing. Mary would learn that you have to dress have naked and have a ton of make up on to be noticed and to feel good and to get guys to like you. The images in this magazine set standards for Americans to look skinny, flawless, and wearing little. Americans should all look like they just came out of a salon and clothing store everyday. Mary would not be surprised by who she sees in the mall because they would all be wanting to look like that. She would probably not be surprised why what the stores were selling either. Americans desire the opposite sex and anyway they can get it. They want to be glamorous and have all the right curves in all the right places. They also desire to be invited to parties and have a little too much fun. Other ads might advertise steps to look a certain way and that would make Americans desire to follow what everyone else is doing and buy the magazine. They set standards for being feminine meaning to be sexy, gorgeous, and skinny. It means to have all the guys bow down to you "make them worship you" and your body be flawless. The magazine advertises feminine as young and beautiful. Masculine would be getting all the girls to like you. Americans are happy when they can sleep with whomever they please and look a certain way. We are happy when we spend three hours making our selves attractive to guys just to go in the wind and get it all messed up. Americans are also happy when they can follow guide lines or steps on how to look and dress a certain way to look the best. After reading the persuasive magazine Mary would probably try a few things and see what other magazines are telling her this. She might be convinced because they use celebrities and beautiful models to demonstrate why it's such a good thing to party and get guys the wrong way. After several years she might turn back realizing it was a mistake and advising other girls not to do it.

1. How many women are in the cast? This answer depends upon the season and episode. Most of the time there are three main girls. Sometimes they will add in a sister or friend to include a little extra drama, but that is not in every episode.
2. How many men are in the cast? Again, this depends upon the season and episode. There are also three main men. They take the three main guys and the three main girls and make them couples, this is the main concept of the show. They add in another guy here and there for more drama and only if they add in extra girls.
3. What are the ages of the actors? Most of the actors are between fifteen and eighteen. The main characters are juniors and seniors in high school.
4. Is anyone over the age of 40 or overweight? Yes, there are a few parents who are over 40, but most are not overweight. There is one man who is overweight and an older woman, but the other parents aren't.
5. Is the leading role held by a woman or a man? I think overall the leading role is played by a girl, a girl in her teens who goes through a lot emotionally and physically.
6. How are the women characters dressed? I can honestly say they are dressed immodestly. There are a few girls in particular who dress more immodestly than others, but they all have had their moments. Even the mothers don't wear the best clothing. One girl is known for dressing immodestly, it's the personality of her character.
7. How are the women characters portrayed in the show on a weekly basis? The women are portrayed in relationships, most of the time they are having drama with their boyfriend or with  another girl's boyfriend. Some are portrayed as sluts, they don’t dress decent and all they want is sex. On a weekly basis they are just having drama with friends.
8. Are any of the women minorities or homosexual? There is one girl, the younger sister of the main character, who plays a minority. She tried hard to fit in and will do anything to achieve it, even if it involves sleeping with your sister's boyfriend. There weren't any homosexuals until this season when one mom was lesbian.
9. Who is the intended audience? The intended audience is teen girls, mostly older teen girls in high school. Girls in general are interested into chick flicks and this is definitely a drama filled chick flick. I think parents or older women would think this show is ridicules and younger girls wouldn't understand it fully.
10. Overall, does this show accurately portray women?  Sadly, I think it does portray women in the fact that they do act the way this show intends for them to, but it doesn't show all realities.

Proactive Solution

As you get older you struggle with many things. Teens specially struggle with acne, it's embarrassing and affects your self esteem. This ad about proactive solution with Jessica Simpson and has her explain why she uses proactive and how it changed her life. I have had problems with acne and wanted to purchase proactive at that time, but I thought it costs too much and we never bought anything off an advertisement on TV.
I chose this ad because I had a phase of hating my acne so bad I wanted to look like celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, but realized it probably wasn't that easy. I wanted to see how bad this really was and how persuasive it is.
Association: Teens seeing this ad want beautiful skin like Jessica Simpson and want to buy proactive.
Bribery: They use the words only and low price to describe how $19.95 is inexpensive and you also get a free refining mask.
Experts: Everyone (girls at least) has a little bit of showcase in them, they want to be on TV and be a movie star. When they use Jessica Simpson to advertise teen girls want to be like her.
Plain folks: They show Jessica Simpson in music videos and people want to be like her, in some ways.
Repetition: They talk about how beautiful it makes you, what benefits it has, and how she uses it often. That sticks in your mind and then you want skin like that.

Super Bowl

They super bowl allows advertising of alcohol, fast food, and pop because they pay to put it on the air. They don't care about what gets advertised as long as they get their money. Alcohol and fast food a long with pop is highly advertised because they are usually funny and have famous people in them. I think the super bowl also allows this because they are quick, less time more money is all the better for them. I don't think they really regulate what gets put on there unless it's really bad. You could easily get one of these things from your neighborhood and that's what they are aiming for. It's too bad that they actually allow this, but then again it's only more thing in our corrupted world.

Experimental zombies

When you observe someone watching tv, you probably won't get much of a response until that program is over unless they aren't into the show. Movie theaters are hilarious, you pay money to sit in front of a huge screen for a couple hours. I am no exception, in fact I recently went to a movie theater to watch a certain movie. I did not get popcorn because I wasn't up to spending more than it would cost to buy the movie in a couple months. The people in front of me had popcorn and pop. Every couple of minutes they reached their hands in the bag of popcorn and transported it into their mouth and right after that they drank their pop, never taking their eyes off the screen. Zombie! I was pretty engaged in most of the movie too and I catch myself doing the same things at home.

TV isn't much different, after a few hours we don't even care what show is on we just sit there and expect them to entertain us, plus we are usually too lazy to get up because we've been zombized. Sadly, often parents will leave their children in front of the television to buy them some time to do things. It's not only bad for their eyes to be right in front of the tube, but also bad for their brains. No matter what age you are, it is a possibility that you are a zombie, often older folks will watch tv because they can't do much physically. I work in a nursing home currently and whenever I come to work I see most are sitting there in front of it.

When I was little my mom didn't really control how much tv I watched because she didn't have to. However, when ever I wanted to watch Saturday morning cartoons my dad would make us go out and do chores. I stil do not watch much tv. I guess I can remember one phase of my like when I enjoyed it a little too much, but that didn't last long.

It's one more thing in our world that is corrupted. If you observe someone watching tv for a while you will notice they don't stretch until they are ready to get up, they don't move for hours and they hardly take their eyes off the set. If we believe that it's a great tool to unwind after a hard day or a good relaxation after a hard day, we might be right, but there are so many other things you could do instead. I do understand that seeing the news is important or having a show that you watch once in a while isn't bad, in fact it's good, but don't let it over come your mind and the way you live you life. We let tv tell us how to live our lives, and most of the time we obey.

TV Ratings

Can you go a day without watching TV? Or missing your favorite show for a week?

I can honestly say that I think Americans are addicted to their TV. I couldn't do it. I couldn't miss my favorite show if I was home and I had the ability to watch it. I also tried everything I had to get home in time to watch it. I knew the show was bad, going against my moral, making fun of what I believe is true, and advertising sex and drinking. But, I didn't care, it was funny! Then, the TV channel started coming out a bit fuzzy and eventually it didn't come in at all. It was a sad day. I didn't know at that time that it was their whole plan! They wanted me to get hooked and watch the commercials. It's all about the ratings. Have you ever noticed how a show suddenly stopped playing? It's because not enough people were interested in that show and the ratings went down, therefore, they didn't have the money to keep it going. Somehow TV has figured out what you are interested in and know how to sink you in, the advertisements in between scenes aren't a mistake, they know you will be interested in it and probably buy it. "It's over rated!" isn't made up, it literally means it's over rated. We all complain there isn't enough time in our day to do everything planned. That's our own fault. We spend about six hours watching TV everyday when we could be outside enjoying fresh air. I'm not saying it's not important to unwind and watch a little, but letting it consume your day is just sad. It's also not bad to have a favorite show, just don't let it run your life. After all, TV was made to entertain us, not suck our brains out.

Your vote

For months we prepare for a day in November that we have to make a decision that will affect our country. "Our vote counts!" is posted everywhere, but does it really?

As we think about the presidential elections, some roll their eyes and others get excited. What is it to you? I personally did not grow up in a family that followed the debates. I hardly knew who our mayor was (we lived in the country, give me a break), but that didn't stop me from getting interested as I got older. As of this moment I can not vote, because of my age, but when I am able to it's going to be a great event. Even though I know more than my parents do about who is in office and what they value. I believe that my vote counts, if we all said our vote didn't matter because it's just one then we wouldn't have any votes! Little by little it adds up. Some people, however, may argue that they just don't know who to vote for. For example, the past election between Barack Obama and John McCain wasn't easy for a lot of people. Even though I couldn't vote, my little voice knew who I would have voted for and it wasn't an easy decision. I am a gullible person, I'll admit it. When I saw Obama or McCain on television I believed what they said. The next day I hear about all the lies they told and I was confused. Finally, when the election came around I sided with my parents. But, if you are anything like me, you go back and forth between the options going through pros and cons. I'm sure the situation is different than all say, but remember it's not permanent, they just control your life for a few years. I am glad there are people out there that take voting extremely serious and never miss a debate or study a bias post card until it starts to decay; we need those people in our country. Even if we all aren't satisfied with what our president Obama is doing, we still voted him in as a country.
My point is, even if you aren't in the mood to make this kind of decision, you didn't follow the debates, and you'd rather just pass your vote on to someone else and not vote - do it for the sticker!

Character

 Is it true? Do you have to be drop dead gorgeous (or extremely hansom) just to appear on television? Some would argue that the answer is yes. I however, disagree. The media has twisted and turned our minds so much that we don't even vote for people unless they are physically attractive. If we watch debates on television half (or more) of our comments about it relate to how they look. When this issue is turned around and sees someone who has a mental disability or is handicapped in some way, a lot of times we don't even give them a chance to speak, we judge them right away and don't allow them to be a consideration. But, what if they actually had a good idea? In my opinion, we need to ear everyone out. We need to give each other a chance and if we don't, we could be missing out on an idea that could give the world peace. Everyone is different and if someone who stutters, has a cataract eye, or a cleft lip isn't going to be accepted into our society we are the only ones to blame. We set "standards" in order to be cool in our generation and in order to even be on the board we need to act a certain way, look perfect, and have no flaws. Is it just me or does this seem impossible? I can't stand it when the shy girl isn't even looked at in school because she doesn't wear name brand clothing. In our society our appearance tells everything you need to know about that person, we don't have to get to know them to know their true personality. Our character is determined by who we hang out with, where we live, what we wear, and how we look. I think we are messed up. Every person has their own personality and character, if we judge them by appearance we are only cheating ourselves out of what could be our best friend or next national leader.

Downloading Music

I have never downloaded music from the Internet. I think it is wrong and wouldn't do it even if I had the option to. But, I know people who do and it seems to me that they do it just because they can and most don't realize it's so bad. I am content with having CD's and listening to them legally, however I must confess I have done it illegally without knowing it was wrong. It's so easy to barrow a CD from a friend and clam it for a week or so and rip the music to your computer and then return the CD when you are done and you will have that music forever. Once I found out that it was illegal to do that unless you own the CD and make a copy for your own benefit, I haven't done it since and I admit that it's not easy to do something that is so easy to get away with. Since so many people don't know how bad it is they will willingly lend their music to friends. Thinking about the music industry, artists need fans to not just have their music but personally buy it from the store because that's now they can make money. So many people share music these days, it would be interesting to see how many people actually own all the music they have on their MP3 player or iPod or even on their computer. This is just one area that the law has trouble containing hold of and since it is so easy to do things illegally with music I don't have a doubt that they let thousands of people go without being punished for having music illegally and never paying the artist for creating a masterpiece.

Music and Me

Back in my day music was quite different. I can't say I liked all that was played, in fact I had one genre of music I really liked which was Christian. Anything from really hard rock to ballet slow was at interest if it was Christian. But, I have to say my favorite was sort of hip hop Christian. Even though I wasn't like most people in admiration for all the new songs that came out I was still mostly aware of them. Music was one thing I, like others, depended on. This is more so now, but the music industry has changed.
I remember growing up when it was cool to have a cd player and what I call "micky mouse" headphones. I used to take my brother's just to carry it around to be "cool". Then, when technology advanced I noticed less people with bulky cd players and carrying around all their cds and more people with cell phones. In my observation music laid low for a while when people got cell phones and texting was huge, but it was still present. A few months later mp3 players became popular and of course I didn't get one until they were almost out of their little phase because ipods took over. I stand today without ever owning an ipod.
Music itself has changed a lot since I was young. My parents always has KTIS playing on the radio so I don't know what the newest songs were but I know they weren't nearly as "techno" as they are today. I know the music I listened to wasn't my family's favorite. Especially when I had the radio set for my alarm clock so not only was it early in the morning but also blaring so everyone in the house could hear and when I didn't wake up right away people really loved me. I do know for a fact that my older brothers and parents are not too faun of my music choice but because of the style. But, as hard as it may sound for me I do appreciate other genres. I have interest in some country music and pop songs.
My mom really liked slow gospel music. Which I hated when I was under ten, but when I opened my mind to it I did kind of like it. Now, I do like southern baptist singing groups so even if kids don't appreciate their parent's interests they might one day. It just shows how attitudes change as people get older. I definitely noticed this with friends around me that changed their music interests as the aged. Even though I had a different understanding for other music my favorite bands were skillet and barlowgirl. But, I also liked Brandon Heath, third day, go fish, Mandisa, and many others.
Music now days has a lot more society in it than it used to. It's as if artists aren't afraid to sing about the world and say words that used to be frowned upon. If I wasn't so bias about one style of music I would probably understand other genres and know more about what the latest songs are about, but I really don't mind not knowing. I listen to the radio pretty much everyday and yes sometimes the songs get old and I'm ready for something new, but overall I'm satisfied with not exploring. I have a feeling that clothing styles will change way more than music will over time. Phases go by so fast when you look at clothing and music stays around for a while and if someone really likes a song it will stay popular longer. Even though music changes everyday and artists introduce new songs it still represents something about our world today.
